Avon unites to fight breast cancer

Nov 7, 2017

ABCP logoAvon recently launched the Breast Cancer Promise: Breast health aware, every woman, every day.  At Avon, we believe that no woman should die because she was left in the dark about breast cancer.  To help every woman know the risks, know the signs and know how to take action, our Avon markets around the world have been going pink to fight breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2017.

Peru

The Avon Peru team showed up in force to its 5k walk and run event to promote awareness of early detection for breast cancer.  With branded materials and a huge social media push the walk captured the commitment of the whole team who also took part in a ‘pink hunt’ to teach the correct steps for a breast self-check exam.

South Africa

The 12th annual Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon in South Africa broke records again as nearly 30,000 walkers took part to raise awareness of breast cancer.  The event remains the largest breast cancer Walkathon in South Africa this year #iThembaWalk2017 was a top trending topic on social media.

Turkey

Avon Turkey’s Pink Wig project aims to change behaviour of women under the age of 35 to help them be more aware of their breast health.  Avon Representatives draped cities in pink with their pink hair extensions and shared information about the fight against breast cancer with 85,000 women in just one day. Women in malls were invited to learn how to correctly self-examine their breasts and thousands of pink hair extensions were shared in women’s magazines. Women were encouraged to post pictures of themselves with their pink wigs with the hashtag #kafayataktik – roughly translated to “we are obsessed with the fight against breast cancer.”  See the campaign video.

UK

Avon UK joined charity CoppaFeel! along with their team of Boobettes, a group of women with a personal connection to breast cancer, to teach other young women and men about the signs of the disease. Together, they are on a mission to encourage monthly boob (and pec) checks to help with the early detection of breast cancer.

Philippines

The Avon Philippines’ Pink Minute campaign reminds women that it only takes a minute to do a breast self-exam. The creative campaign features prominent Avon celebrity ambassadors attempting tasks like polishing nails, doing 100 crunches and decorating cupcakes with only 60 seconds on the clock. The videos show that while many things cannot be completed in one minute, a life-saving breast exam only takes a few seconds.  The Pink Minute digital campaign has reached over 2 million people and to further support, the Pink Minute Hotline is offering free professional consultations, guidance and counselling around breast-related concerns for the whole of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Poland

Avon Poland celebrated Pink Ribbon Day with over 8,000 attendees including local Polish celebrity Malgorzata Kozuchowska who dyed her hair pink for the occasion.  The event featured free ultrasounds for women and meetings with doctors who showed how to breast self-exams as well as demonstrations of how to make healthy meals and apply make-up.

Argentina

Face up to breast cancer. Get the mammogram.  This is the call to action for Avon’s latest campaign in Argentina which launched as a result of research that showed women in Argentina know how to check for breast cancer but they don’t get their annual mammogram. Natalia Oreiro, Avon ambassador fronted the campaign with her “super-empowered” attitude and people were challenged to post a similar photo during October.  More than 5,000 women will get a mammogram during November and December as a result of this campaign.

Over the last 25 years, with the support of our six million independent Avon Representatives worldwide, and our employees and customers, Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women have donated more than $800 million to breast cancer causes, educated 180 million women about this disease, and funded breast health screenings for nearly 20 million women.

We're proud of what we and our Avon Representatives have done. But we know there is much more to do. And we know we can't do it alone. We are committed to working in partnership every step of the way with charities and breast cancer experts. And we won't stop until every woman knows the risks, knows the signs, and knows how and when to take action to protect her breast health.
