New Distribution Center will handle 50% of U.S. Distribution when fully operational in mid-2010

Aug 27, 2007

NEW YORK, N.Y., August 27, 2007 – Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP) today broke ground during a ceremony to begin construction of Avon's new, state-of-the-art distribution center in Zanesville, Ohio.

The new facility in Zanesville will employ in the range of 500 people and will have the capacity to ship 50% of Avon's U.S. sales volume when fully operational.  Avon said previously that it plans to invest approximately $117 million in capital expenditures relating to the new distribution center.

“We are proud to break ground today in Zanesville and begin work on Avon's new state-of-the-art distribution facility,” said Lou Mignone, Regional Vice President, Avon North America Supply Chain.  “With this new facility, Avon is taking the next step in the transformation of our U.S. Distribution network, incorporating cutting-edge technologies that will deliver best-in-class service to our Representatives and Customers.”

“We are happy to welcome Avon to our community,” said Zanesville Mayor Howard Zwelling.  “Avon is world renowned for its outstanding leadership, social responsibility and for being an employer of choice.  The company is a perfect fit for Zanesville.”

In addition to the ground breaking ceremony, Avon hosted a day-long event at The Welcome Center in Zanesville where Avon executives met local residents, discussed Avon's mission and vision, and commitment to empowering women.  Future employment opportunities with the company were also discussed.

“Avon's commitment to Zanesville is a great support to our community,” said Brian Hill, Muskingum County Commissioner.  “I think the day-long informational event hosted by Avon today at The Welcome Center is a great way for our residents to learn more about Avon and the opportunities the company is bringing to our area.”

In January 2007, Avon announced plans to restructure its U.S. Distribution Operations in order to enhance service to Representatives, improve operating efficiencies through new technologies, and achieve other cost savings that can be reinvested in business growth.  In line with this, Avon has said that it will phase out current distribution facilities in Newark, DE, and Glenview, IL in mid-2009 and mid-2010 respectively, at which point the new Zanesville facility will be fully operational.
