Aug 10, 2001
Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP) today appointed Deborah I. Fine to lead the company's entry into a new global business focusing on the fast-growing market for teenage girls. Ms. Fine joins Avon effective September 4 as President, Teen Business, reporting to Andrea Jung, Avon's chief executive officer.
In the newly created position, Ms. Fine, age 41, will be responsible for defining, developing and leading Avon's entry into the teen market. The new operation will be global in scale and focus on the needs and interests of teenage girls, including beauty and related products. The teen business will also leverage Avon's core competency of relationship marketing via distribution channels that are expected to include direct selling, specially created sales catalogues and the Internet. Avon plans to launch the new business in early 2003.
"Marketing to teens is a continuation of our stated strategy to extend Avon's brand equity into new customer segments, new distribution channels and new product categories," Ms. Jung said. "The teen market is growing rapidly all over the world, and we are very excited about launching a new global business that will bring the power of the Avon brand and earnings opportunity to teens in a compelling and relevant way, as well as participate in teens' natural affinity for relationship marketing," she added.
"Debi Fine is a recognized business leader and an innovative brand builder, with an acute understanding of how to reach women," Ms. Jung said. "Her outstanding track-record in creating and positioning brands will be a critical ingredient in helping Avon to reach a new customer segment and leverage the strength of Avon's direct-to-consumer relationships," she said.
