Avon Sales Representatives Jazzed up for Fourth Annual National Convention in New Orleans
Entrepreneurial Career Opportunities and 'Interactive Experiences' Highlight This Year's Convention
Aug 7, 2001
Avon Products, Inc. (NYSE: AVP) today said it will host thousands of its U.S. sales representatives at the company's fourth annual National Avon Representative Convention in New Orleans. New Orleans Mayor, Marc H. Morial will present Avon with a Certificate of Appreciation and the Keys to the City at the gala opening ceremonies on August 15 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
The convention is designed to help Avon representatives strengthen their skills in product knowledge, direct selling, beauty consulting, new customer prospecting, recruiting, Internet selling, financial management, business planning and personal image enhancement.
"For more than a century, Avon has given women the earnings opportunities to start their own business and reach for their dreams," said Brian Connolly, president of Avon U.S. "This year's convention builds on the innovative, entrepreneurial programs Avon has developed to further empower them to even greater financial and personal success."
According to the Direct Selling Association (DSA), a U.S. industry trade group based in Washington, D.C., retail direct sales in the U.S. have grown to more than $24 billion and that nearly 80% of sales are generated through individual one-on-one selling. Direct selling accounts for over 90% of Avon's annual revenues.
In addition to seminars on programs to enhance career-building opportunities and beauty expertise, a new innovation of this year's convention are the special "interactive experiences" designed to provide attendees with hands-on demonstrations of Avon's products and key sales strategies.
Presented regularly throughout the two-day convention, the "interactive experiences" will offer in-depth educational opportunities on a variety of topics including skin care, color cosmetics, health and wellness, and fragrance, fashion accessories and jewelry.
"Interactive experiences" will also be used for the first time ever to enhance featured seminars on a variety of entrepreneurial initiatives for Avon sales representatives, such as:
e-Representative -- attendees will receive detailed demonstrations of the Avon Internet site, personalized sales representative web pages, product ordering, and on-line selling, as well as a preview of future avon.com features and releases.
Avon Leadership Opportunity -- successful Leadership Representatives and industry experts will be on hand to share best practices and explain how sales representatives can utilize Avon's multi-level business model to build successful multi-million dollar entrepreneurial businesses.
Avon Beauty Advisor -- Avon Beauty Advisor experts will be available to talk one-on-one with sales representatives about skin care, color analysis, makeup application and artful accessorizing.
Avon representatives will also learn about other business-building initiatives such as operating licensed Avon Beauty Centers located in retail shopping malls, and community and national fundraising programs.
In addition to the convention's business agenda, representatives will also preview the leading products for the fourth quarter holiday selling season, which generates 30% of Avon's annual sales, and hear a keynote address by Dr. Dorothy "Dot" Richardson, two-time Olympic U.S. Softball Team Gold Medallist and accomplished orthopedic surgeon.
Also making celebrity appearances at this year's National Avon Sales Representative Convention are Avon spokesperson and 2001 Wimbledon Women's Singles Champion, Venus Williams; fashion stylist to the stars Phillip Bloch; and fitness guru Richard Simmons.
This year, for the first time ever, the Avon Product Expo featuring a preview of the company's holiday gifts and beauty products will be open to the general public on Friday, August 17th. The exhibit opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 12:00 p.m. Attendees will be able to view Avon's newest products and take home free samples of their favorite beauty products. Admission is $20.00 at the door.
Closing ceremonies on August 16 and all convention activities will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
