Avon Vows to Continue 2002 Breast Cancer Commitment
Aug 26, 2002
The Avon Foundation announced today that it fully expects the three remaining 2002 Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day events to proceed as planned, despite recent financial difficulties experienced by Pallotta TeamWorks, the event producer contracted to stage the events.
"There is no question that we are committed to the participants and the beneficiaries, and to the responsible management of the funds raised," stated Kathleen Walas, President of the Avon Foundation, the 501(c)(3) public charity that grants monies raised by the events. "Avon looks forward to TeamWorks' full cooperation and shared determination to make the remaining three 2002 events safe and successful for all participants." Events are scheduled to take place in Atlanta (Oct. 4-6), New York (Oct. 11-13) and Los Angeles (Oct. 18-20). Breast Cancer 3-Day events have already been completed in ten other cities this year.
On August 11, the Avon Foundation's Breast Cancer Crusade announced the launch of a new event series, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, to be held in eight cities in 2003 without TeamWorks' involvement. Information on these events can be found at http://www.avonwalk.org/ or by calling 1-877-WALK-AVON. Participants with questions about any Avon fundraising events can send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Avon Foundation has supported women's health and empowerment since 1955. The Foundation's Breast Cancer Crusade has raised more than $235 million worldwide for breast cancer causes since its inception in 1992, and now supports programs in nearly 50 countries.
