Avon U.K. Wins "Green Apple," National Environmental Excellence Award

Nov 15, 2010

NORTHAMPTON, U.K. – November 15, 2010 - Avon Cosmetic Limited’s riverside Northampton head office won national recognition for environmental excellence at the Green Apple Awards ceremony at the House of Commons on Monday. The global beauty brand was awarded a Green Apple Award in September 2010, but it wasn’t revealed until today that Avon U.K. had achieved the highest possible level – gold recognition.

Raleigh Addington, a contestant on the BBC’s “The Apprentice,” presented the award to Louise Matthews, Avon’s Vice President of Global Real Estate.

Anna Segatti, Senior Vice President and President of Avon’s Western Europe, Middle East and Africa business unit, said, “We were honored to receive a Green Apple Award in September 2010; but to find out we achieved the top level of gold recognition is incredible.  At Avon, we are passionate about conducting sustainable business and are proud to be leading the way in environmental excellence.”

Avon Cosmetics Limited will now progress to represent the U.K. in the European Business Awards for the Environment in Brussels in 2011.

Earlier the Green Apple Award judges had commended Avon’s sustainable and innovative new head office at Nunn Mills Road in Northampton.  The facility includes state-of-the-art solar technology and has played a key role in regeneration of the riverside area.

Earlier this year, Avon Products Inc. launched its Hello Green Tomorrow campaign, marking the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.  As part of its globally coordinated tree-planting campaign, Avon is donating $2 million to plant 2 million trees which will restore nearly 5,000 acres of the Atlantic Rainforest.
