A make-up moment: What’s coming next

Avon’s Head of Colour for Global Consumer Product Design, Lisa Garofano shares her insights on the upcoming make-up trends for autumn/winter 2018 – and reveals where she gets her inspiration

Aug 28, 2018

Making colour and trend predictions is a complex journey that has your mind constantly working. It begins with taking in what’s happening around you:  lifestyle, beauty, fashion, home design, art, social media

We keep a close pulse on the global fashion and beauty markets around the world, tracking what is happening in London, Milan, Sao Paolo to name just a few. This becomes part of your collective knowledge to set the looks, colour statements and innovations for the season’s most sought-out and demanded beauty trends.

This season, there’s a real fantasy to beauty. It’s a season of drama, mystery and play – with intriguing textures, enthralling, chameleon-like colours and romantic, playful finishes and techniques. It’s make-up for make-up lovers; a real moment to celebrate the incredible, magical, transformative effects that modern make-up can create.

The trend falls into a few themes. First, is a dazzling play of iridescent light, sheer, halo-effect textures and surreal pastels. It’s pretty without being girly; romantic yet still modern. Textures are sheer and veil-like, or high-shine and almost vinyl-like glossy. A shimmering highlighter is a good way to try the trend, with Avon Magical Highlighter Palette in Rainbow Glow or mark. Magix Finishing Fx Stick in Starstruck or Candlelight

Or dip your toe into the trend – literally – with a beautiful, iridescent nail polish, like Avon True Colour Pro+ Nail Enamel in one of our ‘Halo’ shades: Halo White; Halo Nude; Halo Pink or Halo Rose.

The flip side of this shimmering fantasy is a dark and dramatic, astral-inspired look: think rich, decadent, almost-supernatural shades and galactic, gleaming textures. Darkest shades shot through with a jolt of iridescence create an other-worldly palette that’s a modern take on the classic smoky eye or dark red lip. Try our new Avon True Luminous Velvet lipstick for a luminous matte look or play with our Epic Lipstick and Transformers Collection to find your astral look ,

Again, nails are a great way to try the trend – especially with our new mark. Gel Shine Nail Enamel Dark N Stormy Collection for the ultimate  in dark, glossy, nails. Create dimension by layering mark. Nail Style Studio Cosmic Lights on top to add an oil-slick-like effect

And finally of course, there’s always a new take on nudes: this season, make-up is celebrating the fact that nude isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ shade, with a wardrobe of new elegant neutral shades that allows you to create everything from an intense smoky nude to a sheer wash for day. Avon Eyeshadow Quad in Toasted Terracotta is the ultimate modern eye essential, and this season’s mark. Matte Liquid Lip Lacquer has a new Nudes collection to prove that ‘nude’ doesn’t have to mean boring.

This season’s make-up is a real celebration of beauty – and for Avon, it’s just the beginning
